meet the masterminds

Meet Partially Shy. We're here for a good time, and we hope it's a long one. Give us your strange, your wacky, your weird. Like the name says: we're shy about a lot of things, but not about being creative.

Lina: Co-EiC & Webmaster

Lina Silvester is an artist and writer currently based in New Jersey. A graduate of Drew University in 2023, they currently balance a 9 to 5 job with the chaos and joy that is PS. They enjoy horror movies, peach tea, and Dropout's Dimension 20. 

Sarah: Co-EiC & Social Media Manager

S. (Sarah) McKiernan is a 22-year-old queer Asian American and a lover of all things writing. She is an alumna of Drew University (class of '23) and has been published in several magazines, small presses, and one local newspaper. She is a professional freelance writer and social media manager (available for hire.) She loves books, cats, knitting, and spending time with her partner. 

Julianna: Art Editor, former 1st intern ever at Partially Shy :)

Julianna is an avid art lover who spends her free time watching design videos. She is an alumna of Drew University (class of '24) and has worked for Drews Radio Station as well as NJDEP. She was drawn to Partially Shy after battling a completely shy childhood and now strives to be an outgoing art director!

Preethi: Communications Coordinator

Preethi is imaginative and whimsical at heart. A Drew University graduate (class of 2024) who majored in Marketing and Media & Communications, she enjoys music, singing, the stars, and nature walks. Having had marketing, communications, PR, graphic design, and social media management experience at a variety of arts-oriented places, she strives to create and support art, and positively impact the world around her, and is always seeking ways to do so. She’s so excited to be a part of the amazing Partially Shy team!

Enzo: Editorial Staff

Lorenzo is a 23-year-old Drew University alumni (class of '24) just trying to figure out what pleases him. He has dabbled in many different arts - theater, tech, writing, and even metalworking - and now is trying his hand at publishing. When not helping Partially Shy Magazine, he can be found substitute teaching, dog sitting, or watching Twin Peaks.

Rachelle: Art Staff

Rachelle is a multi-faceted artist and designer specializing in graphic design, illustration, collaging, and various other art forms. She is in her final semester at Montclair State University for a BFA in visual communication design. As a soon to be graduate, she's looking to gain experience in social media graphics, posters, motion graphics, branding, and editorial design. She has spent time freelancing with various clients and following her passion for traditional art whenever she can. Some of her hobbies include jewelry making, sewing, and film photography. She loves thrifting, collecting trinkets, local music shows, boba and sushi.  

how did this happen?

Imagine, if you will, the quintessential college dining hall. The air permanently smells like chicken fingers. There are water rings on the tables, and they all have one leg that's a little too short. 

Imagine, also, that it's finals season, and everyone is a little out of their minds. Energy drinks and double-shot coffees abound. Our eye bags have both a suitcase and carry-on luggage. 

"What if," someone says, "we started a magazine?"

 "Sure," we say. It's a month before graduation and no one knows what to do with a BA in English. Why not this?
